The only way one can enter by the narrow gate with joy is by knowing the truth.
Jesus said that the truth will set you free. And He is the Truth. You will know the truth by abiding in Him. And you will be free from the slavery of sin.
To abide in Jesus is to follow Him. To follow Him is to deny yourself and carry your cross.
Denying yourself and carrying your cross is like entering by the narrow gate. It is sacrificing your own comfort for the good of the many. It is taking the difficult path. But know that this difficult path leads to eternal life.
Knowing that this difficult path leads to eternal life should be enough reason for you to willingly enter through the narrow gate and to do so with joy.
Knowing that other paths lead to other than eternal life, which is hell, should make an impact on you so much that you would make it your habit to always enter through the narrow gate – to deny yourself the comfort so you can serve God through others, to embrace suffering and sacrifice for the greater good.
Let me summarize the liberating truth of Jesus:
God created the world and us. God loves us and wants only the best for us. But our first parents, Adam and Eve disobeyed God and died spiritually, losing access to God’s graces, becoming slaves to sin. As a result of this, we, the descendants of Adam and Eve, carry this flaw of being slaves to sin.
But God really loves us so much that He made plans for us to be reunited with Him. And the only way for that to happen is through the perfect sacrifice of Jesus. Jesus became the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Jesus, through His total obedience to the Father, died on the cross, triumphed over death and redeemed us from the slavery of sin. He who believes in Him will have eternal life.
Jesus is the only way to the Father. Only through Him can we be reunited with God. We can come after Jesus by denying ourselves and carrying our crosses.
Many ask why there is so much sufferings on earth. It is the result of the fact that this world became inhabitants of people who are slaves to sin, who love themselves more than God. All are subject to these sufferings, both the believers and unbelievers.
But we, the believers of Jesus, knowing that these sufferings are part of life on earth, have learned to embrace sufferings and we embrace them with joy. We willingly enter by the narrow gate with joy because we know that it leads to eternal life.
We remember the disobedience of our first parents Adam and Eve which is the result of pride, of wanting to be like God knowing good and evil. And so we live our lives rejecting pride and embodying obedience and humility modeled for us by Jesus. By God’s grace, we are not blinded by the sparkles of material wealth, fame and luxuries which are really Satan’s attempts to lure us away from God.
We also remember that Eve was deceived by the lying evil serpent. And so we live our lives aware of the lies of this world. One of those lies that have led others astray is that we should live for our own happiness. The truth is that we should live for God’s glory.
We believe that going through the many sufferings and sacrifices we become stronger, wiser and beautiful masterpieces of God.
We enter by the narrow gate and do so with joy because we know the truth of Jesus – that we should deny ourselves and carry our crosses so we can follow Jesus in eternal life.
