The Catholic Church compiled the Bible
Yes, the Catholic Church compiled the Bible.
Now, if you truly believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, then you should believe that the one that compiled it must have been inspired by God.
Many non-Catholic Christians boast that they are the true Christians for they follow only what are written in the Holy Bible, the Word of God.
They accuse us Catholics of loving and giving more importance to Mary than to Jesus who is the Word of God. They see us as non-Christians for we believe and practice some things not directly found in the Bible.
But they ignore the fact that the Holy Bible was compiled by the Catholic Church. Some don’t even know this. They don’t know because they were not told the fact that it was through some Ecumenical Councils, composed of Catholic Bishops guided by the Holy Spirit, that the Bible was compiled.
Remember at that time, there were no other Christian churches but the Catholic Church.
There had been some arguments in the Council regarding which books to include. Then, in 382 A.D. in the Council of Rome, Pope Damasus intervened and declared the list of 77 books, 46 Old Testament and 27 New Testament, to be included in the Bible. This list of books was reaffirmed in the Council of Trent held between 1545 and 1563 in answer to the Reformation heresy.
And the Holy Bible was compiled using Sacred Tradition.
Through Sacred Tradition the Catholic Church knew then which books were more important, which books or letters were written by Mark, Matthew, Luke, John and Paul.
Through Sacred Tradition the Catholic Church knew which books were inspired and were indeed the Word of God.
If those non-Catholic Christians rely so much on the Holy Bible for their teachings because they believe it is the Word of God, it would be illogical for them not to trust the one that compiled it.
And then during the Reformation initiated by Martin Luther, the Protestants removed seven books from the Bible. And if you don’t know this, you might believe them when they say that the Catholic Church added seven books to the Bible.
Many Catholics don’t know this truth about the Bible. And so they easily get persuaded by the claims of non-Catholic Christians against the Catholic Church.
That the Catholic Church compiled the Bible is indicative that she indeed has the authority as the Church that Jesus founded.
